Discover up-and-coming children's author Cara Matheson


Welcome to our latest feature on up-and-coming children's author, Cara Matheson. In her debut book, 'Finding Floss: The Colour-Changing Cockapoo', Floss loves to play tricks on people by seemingly disappearing, but sometimes takes things too far. However, her ability to change colours comes in handy when her child owner gets lost at the funfair.


One of the key messages Cara hopes to get across in this story is advice for children on what to do if they get lost. As she explains, "I think it's really important, as so often kids will panic because they don't know what to do or who to ask for help." In addition to this practical advice, 'Finding Floss' is also a celebration of family and belonging in all its forms.

As a child, Cara's favourite books were poetry anthologies and works by authors like Roger McGough, Shel Silverstein, and Allan Ahlberg. She also loved Jill Murphy's 'The Worst Witch" series and was captivated by the magical world the author created. and Scottish members and includes step-parents, step-grandparents, and step-siblings. Cara wanted to celebrate blended families and show that they can be happy, loving, and full of richness.

Writing has always been Cara's passion, but she took a bit of a detour before finally focusing on it seriously. After working as a magazine journalist and raising young children, she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an author. Now, ten years later, she is finally seeing her work published.

In the future, Cara plans to write sequels to 'Finding Floss' and more absurd stories in the vein of 'Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.' She also wants to create books on issues that are important to her.

Cara has a simple message for her readers: she hopes they enjoy 'Finding Floss' as much as she enjoyed writing it!
